Burnt Hills Ballston Spa Hockey Teams Up with the Brave Will Foundation

The Burnt Hills Ballston Spa Varsity Hockey team is making a difference in a child’s life by supporting the Brave Will Foundation. Through its “Dump and Change” fundraiser, the team is collecting spare change at each of the Burnt Hills schools as well as Ballston Spa High School. All of the money collected will be donated to the foundation. In addition, on Tuesday, February 8th, the hockey team will hold its 1st Annual Brave Will Game at Union College at 7:15. Amounts raised through the “Dump and Change” fundraiser will be announced that night. A raffle for a Price Chopper gift card will be held and Brave Will Foundation merchandise will also be available at the game.

Please come join us at the game, watch some great hockey, and support Kids helping Kids with their wonderful generosity. Additional details can be found on the flyer below.

Happy New Year from the Brave Will Foundation

Over the past week, we’ve had an opportunity to reflect back on our first year as a foundation. We’re still amazed at how much was accomplished and how many gracious people we met in our journeys. We’re thrilled at the progress and look forward to continuing our march throughout 2011. To hear from Albany Medical Center that our foundation is already making a difference in the support of children with life threatening illnesses is such a boost for us, particularly when we start to feel sad or down throughout the holiday season. We know that we can continue to help those families that are facing the same obstacles we faced two years ago with Will (gosh, has it really already been two years?!?).

We look back in fondness at some of the year’s highlights:

  • Our first “official” board meeting in January–we were on our way…
  • The 1st Annual Evening of Will Power in April that nearly sold out and raised over $28,000
  • Becoming a 501(c)(3) organization–we had no idea what those letters and numbers meant two years ago; now we get the importance
  • Our 2nd Annual Wine Tasting Happy Hour–great wines, great music, great times…
  • Brave Will Foundation being selected as the charitable organization for the annual Blowdry Boot Camp at Nuance Salon
  • The literally hundreds of new people we have met and spread the message of Will Power to
  • Finally, of course, our first donation of $25,000 to Albany Medical Center to support the pediatric palliative care program there

Many great memories throughout the year–all done with our little angel Will leading the way. That little guy still manages to accomplish great things and we’re lucky to be driven by such an inspirational force. Thank you Will for helping us make sense of your life and legacy.

As we settle into the new year, we wanted to recognize some recent fundraising activities that were done for the foundation:

  • The Model Congress Club at Long Beach High School on Long Island competes in regional competitions. Usually, awards are given at the end of the 2-day event. This year, in lieu of giving out as many awards as they normally do, they chose instead to donate the money to a charity and selected the Brave Will Foundation as its recipient. Thank you Long Beach HS students and Mr. Hartmann!
  • The Latham Rotary held a pancake breakfast this fall to raise money for the Brave Will Foundation.
  • The Brave Will Foundation was selected to receive the proceeds of the New York State United Teachers’ employee dress down day during a week this fall.
  • Will’s cousin, Sam Verdile, did his part for the foundation by collecting bottles and donating the deposit money to the foundation–way to go Sam!!

These are just some recent examples of the kindness we have been witness to all year long. No matter how big or small the donation, every little bit we receive means so much to us and to those that receive palliative care services at Albany Medical Center. As you enter the new year, we encourage you to take advantage of any corporate matching program your employer may offer, attend one of our fundraising events, tell people about why your wearing your Will Power wristband, and as always, continue to celebrate Will Power!

Have and Happy and Healthy New Year!
