Over 350 people packed the National Museum of Dance last Saturday for the 3rd Annual Evening of Will Power gala. It was the most ever to attend our annual event. Those in attendance were treated to some unforgettable attractions: the music of 2096 that got the dance floor hopping; the raucous crowds at the casino games; the delicious make-your-own sundaes at the Ben&Jerry’s ice cream stand; the escape to the outdoor cigar bar. All of these attractions and many more truly made this event unique and enjoyable for all who attended.
The big news was that the nearly 400 people in attendance were part of something special as they all worked together to raise $42,000 to support the goals of the Brave Will Foundation! This is the most ever raised at one of our fundraising events and we are so appreciative of the generosity and support that was demonstrated that evening. We simply cannot thank enough everyone who attended, volunteered, donated, and supported us as we celebrated Will Power all evening long.
The money raised from the event will be used to support the three primary goals of our foundation:
- Financial support for the Journeys Program at Albany Medical Center: This program provides pediatric palliative care support for children with disease that greatly risks their chance of survival. This support also extends to family members. To date, the Brave Will Foundation has donated $50,000 to support the program.
- SOAR Program: Last year, the foundation started the SOAR program (Steer Onward and Remember). The program provides funding for families on the first anniversary of a child’s passing. SOAR allows families to spend that anniversary day doing something memorable with the entire family in honor of their child.
- Inpatient Pediatric Hospice Facility at Albany Medical Center: The foundation has been working with Albany Medical Center administration to secure space in the children’s hospital for an inpatient pediatric hospice facility. The facility would allow families to spend time with a child during the final days at the hospital, but do so in an experience that is unlike any other that the hospital currently can provide. The foundation is hoping to get a commitment on the space in 2012 with hopes that the facility would be available for patient use in 2013.
If you were unable to attend, we would encourage you to watch the video that was created for the gala that highlights how the support of so many people is truly making a difference in the lives of children with life threatening illnesses and their families.
We’ve also assembled a collection of pictures from the event. Thank you to Gallery 9 North for capturing these amazing moments from the night
Mark your calendars now for the 4th annual gala to be held on April 27, 2013. Also, stay tuned for future fundraising events that will be held later this year.
Once again, thank you to all who supported and continue to support the efforts of our foundation. With your generosity, we are truly making a difference!
Celebrate Will Power!
